The Palisades Fire was first reported around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. By 3:30 p.m., the fire had exploded to more than 1,200 acres and was expected to keep growing amid strong Santa Ana winds. Timelapse footage captured the Garnet Fire as it spread in Fresno County, California, over a 12-hour period from Saturday night into Sunday morning. Officials said the lightning-induced fire, which started on Aug. 24, was “relatively quiet” overnight, but that it’s threatening nearly 200 giant sequoias — the largest tree species on Earth.
