The purpose of punishment or a correction in dog training is to discourage and stop unwanted behavior. This video is a perfect example of how to apply a correction. 1. On time. Within 2 seconds of the behavior 2. Without emotion. No need for anger or frustration 3. Meaningful. It has to register to the dog and be enough of a consequence to work. If you know anything about dog training, then you’d know that there were actually two types of punishers applied in this video. The first was NEGATIVE P

In my opinion, the best course of action is a correction. What type of correction depends on the dog but typically a physical correction - Leash pop, bark collar, e collar. You can also go the less aversive route with ignoring or sound frequency (audible correction). You could also try a compressed air correction or spray bottle, but I’m not a huge fan of those two, personally. #barkingdog #dogbarking #dogbehavior #dogpsychology #chiuhuahua | Leader Of The Pack K9 Training

These corrections from Parker are him turning his head away, looking to the side or up. That’s it. That’s the correction 👀 To avoid any build up of stress or the puppy rehearsing pushy behaviour, the clip ends because the humans step in and give Parker space. There’s no need to let them “work it out between themselves” when that so often sets things up to go wrong. It’s easier, and kinder, to step in early and shape calm, polite interactions 🙂 Mother dogs do not use force to teach their puppie

Fair correction creates clarity and builds trust. In this video you can see how I physically correct my dog Voitto in a way that improves his behavior, builds understanding, and never weakens our relationship. I could easily define myself as a reward-based trainer, because I motivate my dogs so much: socially, with food and playing with toys. But I honestly can’t imagine life with high-drive working dogs without ever using physical corrections. This applies both to daily life management and comp

A common thing I hear as a dog behavior expert and trainer is “dogs correct each other, so why can’t I correct my dog.” Dogs using corrections as communication, and to set boundaries in their own defense. And that’s all! People use physical corrections typically not to defend their own space or items (all distance increasing behaviors by the way) but to decrease distance in most cases, or to control the dog! How confusing is that? #dogbehavior #dogtraining #dogtrainingtips | Thinking Canine
