On Jan. 26 the Minneapolis hippie diner Modern Times made an announcement: all their menu items are now free, unless you’re a federal agent. The hours will remain the same, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, but the menu will be a bit smaller. The restaurant will run on donations. Servers will volunteer, but still be paid. Dylan Alverson has owned the diner for 15 years. The restaurant is six blocks from where George Floyd was murdered in 2020, four blocks from where Renee Macklin Good was killed by an ICE

One of the stories that I heard that put a battery in my back to go to Minneapolis was from an IG video that Dylan Alverson posted. Dylan owns @post.modern.times.cafe in Minneapolis. After Alex Pretti was killed by federal agents, Dylan decided that the least he could do was to give away free food from his restaurant. It is going so well he still wants to keep giving food away after the government leaves. Watch the full interview on my Substack. wkamaubell.Substack.com #wkamaubell #minneapolis #

Part two of the my Minneapolis video where I started at Post @post.modern.times.cafe talking Dylan, the owner. After our talk, Dylan took me to @AmigosOneStop across the street. He wanted me to meet more good folks in the neighborhood who were putting themselves and their businesses on the line to stand up against ICE’s illegal occupation of Minnesota. Ammar and his brother, the owners of the grocery (tienda), were awesome, effortlessly gracious and also committed to supporting their community.
