Here's the GOES-17 day-cloud phase satellite imagery from this evening. The blue pixels showing up near the Cascade crest and one lone blue pixel in east-central Lane County are lightning being detected by the satellite. The low pressure swirling offshore will bring another batch of rain to the area late tonight into Tuesday morning. Here's a visible satellite loop showing marine clouds along the coast streaming southward. Can you spot the narrow ribbon of brighter white clouds spreading westward while simultaneously shifting southward off the Oregon coast? This is likely the result of combustion from a ship. The particulate matter from the exhaust helps to allow more cloud droplets to form in its immediate vicinity. This results in thicker (brighter white) clouds than areas where the ship is not tracking. As the ship moves
