John Cage’s In a Landscape was originally written in 1948 for solo piano or harp. Its flowing arpeggios and meditative stillness reflect Cage’s admiration for Erik Satie and his early explorations of ambient sound—what he later called “furniture music.” In this transcription for marimba (performed in 2015), percussionist Ian David Rosenbaum brings a new dimension to Cage’s tranquil sound world.
