The Great Blizzard of 1978, often called the "White Hurricane," remains the worst winter storm in Ohio's recorded history. Striking from January 25 to 27, 1978, the storm paralyzed the state with record-low atmospheric pressure, hurricane-force winds, and massive snowdrifts. ✅ Key Statistics and Impact Fatalities: 51 deaths were reported in Ohio alone, primarily due to exposure, heart attacks from shoveling, or carbon monoxide poisoning in stranded vehicles.
