Hurricane Melissa— one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes ever recorded—is now off Cuba’s eastern coast, after leaving a trail of destruction across the large island and its much smaller neighbor, Jamaica.

The storm will hit Bermuda on Thursday afternoon or evening, after Jamaica faced the devastation from one of the most powerful storms ever recorded.

Hurricane Melissa is quickly moving away from Bermuda after leaving a trail of widespread destruction across the Caribbean, where the death toll continues to rise.Dozens of deaths have been blamed on the storm.

Saying "recovery cannot be left to chance," Edmund Bartlett said Jamaica's Ministry of Tourism has activated a Hurricane Melissa Recovery Task Force.
