SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Alex Morgan is returning to San Diego Wave FC — this time in a different capacity. The National Women’s Soccer League club announced Tuesday the two-time Women’s World Cup winner is rejoining to the team as a minority investor with an equity stake, guiding the very same team she shaped as a player on the field.

Morgan announced she was retiring after a 15-year career in professional soccer last September, when she was pregnant with her son Enzo, who was born last month. A crowd of 26,516 filled San Diego’s Snapdragon Stadium for Morgan’s farewell match.

Two-time World Cup winner and Olympic champion Alex Morgan is the newest minority investor in San Diego Wave FC. Morgan finished her decade-plus professional and international career with San Diego, who she led to the NWSL Shield in 2023.
