Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says he has ordered the deployment of more than 5,000 Texas National Guard troops across the state, along with more than 2,000 state police.

Protests that sprang up in Los Angeles over immigration enforcement raids have spread across the country. The Trump administration said it would continue the raids and deportations despite the protests.

Maj. Gen. Scott Sherman said 500 National Guard members have been trained to accompany agents on immigration operations.

The peaceful protest began shortly after 6 p.m. and soon tripled in size as people congregated in front of a road closure, occupied by at least six members of the California National Guard on

McCrory said the state is put in a “precarious position” when a governor and mayor aren’t willing to work with the president.

In response to the protests in his state, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, has announced that he intends to deploy the National Guard across the state to “ensure peace and order” ahead of further planned demonstrations against the Trump Administration’s immigration policies.
