Karan Johar recently sold a 50% stake in Dharma Productions to Adar Poonawalla, CEO of Serum Institute, with an investment of Rs 1000 crore. In his first interview post-deal, Karan humorously joked about renaming the company to 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Serum' and 'Pharma Productions,

Johar explained that the primary reason behind the partnership was to take Dharma to the next level, where they could fund their own projects without outside support. He said that he wants to ‘chase’ the mid-budget films because that’s where the bigger profits lie.

Karan Johar candidly admitted that he felt out of place in meetings with Adar Poonawalla, in the days and weeks leading up to their partnership on Dharma Productions.
