A tsunami warning was issued for California's North Coast, after a massive earthquake off the coast of eastern Russia.

Waves were reported along a wide swath of the Northern California coast, including in San Francisco. The rest of the state was under a lesser tsunami advisory.

San Francisco Bay Area surfers were unfazed Wednesday by a tsunami alert issued for the entire coast of California. A tsunami advisory was triggered by an 8.8-magnitude earthquake that rocked Eastern Russia Tuesday afternoon.

A preliminary magnitude-4.4 earthquake in the San Bernardino area produced shaking that was felt over widespread parts of Southern California. The quake, reported at about 9:30 a.m., was one of four of magnitude-2.5 or greater in the area, which includes the communities of Muscoy and Rialto.

A 4.4-magnitude earthquake centered just west of Muscoy, and north of San Bernardino, rattled Southern California at 9:32 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, according to the United States Geological Survey. It some areas, it lasted just a couple of seconds and was gentle. Elsewhere, it went on much longer.

A magnitude 4.4 earthquake hit Southern California on Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Society.
