President Donald Trump announced Wednesday he planned to hit Brazil with a 50% tariff, in part due to the treatment of its former president and his political ally, Jair Bolsonaro.

President Donald Trump said Wednesday the U.S. will slap a 50% tariff on Brazil's imports, partly in retaliation for the ongoing prosecution of the country's former president, Jair Bolsonaro.

Tensions between the United States and Brazil have suddenly burst open. Responding to criticism from President Trump, Brazil’s president said: “We don’t want an emperor.”
