A newly discovered vulnerability in Microsoft’s SharePoint platform has spurred a mad frenzy from hackers — leading to breaches of some Microsoft clients.
In a blog post Tuesday, Microsoft said it observed hackers attempting to “gain initial access to target organizations.” According to Microsoft, those involved included hacking groups called Linen Typhoon and Violet Typhoon—which Microsoft said are linked to the Chinese government—and China-based group Storm-2603.
Microsoft is issuing an emergency fix to close off a vulnerability in Microsoft’s SharePoint software that hackers have exploited to carry out widespread attacks on businesses and at least some federal agencies.
Unknown attackers exploited a “significant vulnerability” in Microsoft’s SharePoint collaboration software, hitting targets around the world.
The tech giant said the hackers breached its SharePoint document software servers to target major firms and government agencies.
