Israel is repatriating tens of thousands of its citizens stranded abroad after a flare-up in fighting with Iran, deploying emergency airlifts and ferries.

Israel’s strikes on Iran have killed at least 78 people, including top military commanders, and wounded more than 320, the Islamic Republic’s envoy to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, said at an emergency U.

The path to diplomacy appeared to narrow after officials called off talks that had been set for Sunday between Tehran and Washington on the future of Iran’s nuclear program. Israel said the goal of the powerful strikes it unleashed on Friday was disabling Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
