Hawaii health officials say one person has died and another got sick after being infected with listeria. The Hawaii State Department of Health confirmed the infection and that both individuals were infected with the same outbreak strain.

Listeria is a type of bacteria found in many places, like soil, dirty water, and animals. Eating food contaminated with listeria can lead to a foodborne illness called listeriosis. Common symptoms for this infection include fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Apart from 27 reported listeria illnesses across 18 US states, 25 people have been hospitalised as of now due to the listeria outbreak.

The recall includes both individual fruits and multi-packs of peaches sold under the brand Moonlight Companies, according to an alert on the Food and Drug Administration website. Some yellow peaches sold under the Kroger brand name are also affected by the recall.
