According of Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, the Saints have "no plans to interview anyone else," for the opening and are down to candidates: New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka and Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Former Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy does not plan to coach this year. The New Orleans Saints are the only team still looking to hire a head coach, with six other franchises previously filling their vacancies.

As the New Orleans Saints head into the offseason looking to bolster their roster, the team is also looking for their next head coach with one in mind being Mike McCarthy, who was at the helm for the Dallas Cowboys last season. While the Saints will interview McCarthy, NFL insider Adam Schefter spoke about how he makes the most sense for the role.

The Dallas Cowboys didn't renew the contract of McCarthy following a 7-10 season in 2024. He was 49-35 with two NFC East titles in five seasons in Dallas. He is 174-112-2 in 18 seasons as a head coach, including 125 wins and a Super Bowl championship with the Green Bay Packers (2006-18).

McCarthy is the third high-profile candidate to pull out of the Saints' search, joining Buffalo offensive coordinator Joe Brady and Washington offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.

Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore has emerged as the “lead candidate” for the fill the Saints’ vacant head coaching position, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Former Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy was also in the running for the job, but he does not plan to coach this year and will instead focus on the 2026 hiring cycle, according to ESPN.
