It doesn’t sound like Josh McDaniels is not on the short list for Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel’s next offensive coordinator.

Josh McDaniels and Mike Vrabel were together on what came close to being regarded as the NFL's best team of all-time.

“Yeah,” Vrabel responded on “The Greg Hill Show,” when asked if McDaniels was on his list of candidates. McDaniels has been connected to Vrabel since the beginning of the Patriots’ head coaching search. If he joins Vrabel’s staff, it would be his third stint with the team as an offensive coordinator.

Mike Vrabel will start his search for a new offensive coordinator immediately. He said Josh McDaniels is on his list of candidates.

Another reported candidate, Browns tight ends coach/pass game specialist Tommy Rees, looks to be off the board. Cleveland promoted Rees to offensive coordinator Tuesday afternoon, following his first and only season with the organization. Vrabel worked with Rees last year, when he served in a hybrid coach/consultant role for the Browns.

The roster rebuild appears it will be handled in tandem with general manager Eliot Wolf who managed to stay on the disappointment of 2024.

Mike Vrabel admitted Tuesday that Josh McDaniels is on a "long list" of potential offensive coordinator candidates for the Patriots.

“If I’m Mike Vrabel, the first thing I would do is call up and dial up the number of Josh McDaniels, a familiar [face] to Patriots fans, and hire him as the offensive coordinator as soon as possible,” said Gronkowski.
