Right now, the system's center looks to have a more southerly track, which means Chicago will be on the cold side with the potential for accumulating snow—mainly midday Sunday through early overnight. Behind that, lake-effect snow will favor our lakeshore communities on Monday.

Hampton Roads might get another round of snow and ice this weekend as a nor’easter is expected to move across the South. According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield,

The seasonably cold January weather is sticking around Chicagoland this week. Early-morning temperatures Wednesday were in the single digits away from the lake and in the teens closer to the lake, with winds out of the northwest dropping wind-chill values to around zero in some locations.

As Arctic air and frigid temperatures continue, the next chance for snow in the Chicago area comes Thursday into Friday as part of a winter storm developing in the southern U.S.

It’s cold, and it’s going to stay cold in Chicago with only minor fluctuations in temperatures likely over the next couple of weeks.
