Marian Turski, a Polish-born survivor of Auschwitz who helped found the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw, has died. He was 98. His death was announced Tuesday by the Polish magazine Polityk,

Mr Turski survived the Lodz Ghetto, extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau and two death marches as a teenager.

The 98-year-old president of the International Auschwitz Committee, Marian Turski, is dead. The Holocaust survivor died on Tuesday in Warsaw, the committee - an association of Auschwitz survivors and their organizations from 19 countries - announced in a statement.

Marian was our teacher, he was our moral voice and mentor," Poland's chief rabbi said. "He was steeped in Jewish wisdom and used it to guide us on how to face today’s problems."
