The brush fire, dubbed the Crown Fire, was first reported around 11:25 a.m. on Soledad Canyon near Crown Valley Road in Acton. UPDATE 11:55 a.m.: The Crown Fire is now at 25 acres and is still being driven by the wind, according to officials. Officials on scene report that the wind-driven fire is at 5 acres, burning uphill.
Extreme heat and dry conditions have left dead or dried grass and other ready-to-burn plant material across tens of millions of acres.
The fire, which is burning outside of Collbran, is now 50% contained according to MCSO. There is no longer visible smoke, and MCSO said the remaining interior heat of the fire is no longer a threat.
