Over 800 wildfires are burning through forests in Canada, creating heavy smoke that could potentially affect millions of Americans this week. Some of the largest blazes are in west-central Ontario province.

Smoke from two out-of-control wildfires in the Boston Bar area continues to drift into the Okanagan, prompting a warning from BC Wildfire Service.

There has also been an increase in wildfire smoke across the Kootenays, however, much of it is originating from fire south of the Canada/U.S. border in Washington and Oregon. In the East Kootenay, there have been a number of starts that were discovered on July 18.

A wildfire is burning just south of the Village of Pemberton, according to the BC Wildfire Service. The fire is burning out of control over four hectares as of Wednesday evening, and suspected to be human-caused.

Two new spot-sized fires have been discovered west of Kamloops on Friday. The new fires, located north of Highway 1 just west of Kamloops Lake, have been recently posted on the BC Wildfire Service's fire map Friday.

The evacuation order applies to the One Mile Lake park area, "to provide safe working space to crews supporting fire operations."
