Nipah virus is a zoonotic virus, usually transmitted from animals such as fruit bats to humans or through contaminated food. It was first identified in 1999 during an outbreak among pig farmers in Malaysia and Singapore. The UK Foreign Office (FCDO) has not updated specific travel advice for India since the Nipah virus outbreak.
No cases of the virus were reported outside India, but several Asian countries introduced or reinforced screening measures at airports as a precaution.
Following the outbreak of the deadly Nipah virus, airports in Asia are screening travelers from the “affected areas.”

There is also cough, headache, muscle pain and difficulty breathing. There could also be brain swelling, the Post reported.
As of Tuesday afternoon, five people had been transported from the facility for treatment of their symptoms, officials said.
