The Washington Capitals open a five-game road trip when they visit the Connor McDavid-less Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night.

For the only time this season, Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals traveled to Edmonton to play the Oilers. Edmonton was without Connor McDavid, as he served game one of his three-game suspension resulting from his cross-check on Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland.

Thompson picked up his fifth straight win despite the Oilers getting the better of the Capitals on the shot counter by a 32-14 margin. He also earned an assist on the game-winning goal, and the 27-year-old goalie was able to stay calm after Corey Perry scored the Oilers' second goal following a fan tossing nachos onto the ice.

Tom Wilson, Matt Roy and Pierre-Luc Dubois scored and Logan Thompson made 30 saves during a 3-2 win over the Connor McDavid-less Oilers.
