Police in the southern Chinese city of Zhuhai say they have detained a 62-year-old man after he rammed a car into people exercising at a local sports center on Monday evening and fled.

Thirty-five people were killed and another 43 were injured when a driver deliberately rammed his car into a crowd outside a sports center in Zhuhai, southern China, police said Tuesday.

The attack took place Monday when police said 62-year-old man drove an SUV into a group of people outside a sports stadium in the city of Zhuhai.

The driver was apprehended as he tried to flee, local authorities said, adding that an initial investigation suggested he was resentful over a divorce settlement.
