The Taliban government in Afghanistan announced on Tuesday the release of two American citizens as part of a prisoner exchange. The Foreign Ministry in Kabul did not disclose the identities of the Americans but confirmed that they were exchanged for Khan Muhammad.

The deal was struck for Khan Mohammad, a member of the Taliban serving two life sentences in a U.S. prison on "narco-terrorism charges."
