The club announced they will appeal the decision, buying them more time to meet the DNCG's financial requirements.

Olympique Lyonnais has officially been relegated to Ligue 2, not for sporting reasons, but due to financial instability. Following a hearing on Tuesday, France’s financial watchdog DNCG confirmed the administrative relegation it initially threatened back in November.

After the meeting, Lyon's president John Textor said he remained confident of avoiding the drop to Ligue 2 for next season, where the club has not played since 1989.
