India and Britain struck a “landmark” trade deal Tuesday, the UK government said, marking progress on lowering and removing tariffs just as President Donald Trump is busy raising US import taxes to historic levels.

Though no deals have been announced yet, President Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent have both said agreements could come as soon as this week.

Britain and India have agreed on a hard-wrought free trade agreement that will reduce or eliminate tariffs on Scotch whisky and scores of other products.
