As bitter cold temperatures gripped the Houston region Monday morning, some power outages were being reported in the city and suburbs.

On Sunday alone, the airport reported around 500 cancellations, raising concerns about potential impacts on Monday travel.

A noticeable leak was reported in the area at least two days before.

CenterPoint's chief operating officer said the company's concerns about ice accumulating on its Houston-area power lines did not materialize.

Temperatures will continue to drop this evening, however.

Thousands of homes and businesses were without electricity Sunday morning in the Houston region, where residents awoke to cold, wet and in some cases icy conditions as a winter storm moved in.
